COPE Health Scholars - MultiCare Tacoma, Wa.

What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?

What inspires me about studying human development and family sciences is learning about everything that encompasses the human experience. HDFS offers courses that cover the biological, psychological, social, and emotional aspects of humans. I chose OSU because of its welcoming environment, which made me feel at home.

What are you doing in your internship, and what is your main project?

The main objective of my internship is to gain hands-on experience with patients and have the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, and other clinicians in a hospital setting. As health scholars, we often assist nurses and certified nursing assistants with patient care tasks to meet patients' needs.

What do you see as the greatest value of your internship, or what have you learned the most?

The greatest value of my internship has been the opportunity to shadow and work directly with nurses and CNAs.

This experience has made me more confident in my decision to pursue nursing and reassures me that I am on the right path. The nurses I’ve worked with have provided valuable information that I will carry with me through nursing school and beyond.

What do you think of your experience at OSU/within the college so far? Any standout experiences?

My college experience has been amazing so far. Although I’ve faced challenges, I’ve learned a lot about myself.

Participating in the COPE Health Scholars program has been an unforgettable experience. I wouldn’t have discovered this internship if it weren’t for Tasha Randall.

Thanks to the Health Scholars program, I now feel confident in my ability to interact with patients and navigate a hospital setting. The College of Health has amazing professors who truly care about their students' career paths and go above and beyond to set them up for success.

Have you received a scholarship? If so, how has it affected your life and studies?

I am grateful for the scholarships I’ve received. School becomes even more stressful when you have to worry about paying for classes.

Receiving scholarships has eased my anxiety and allowed me to focus on my coursework rather than financial concerns. In the summer of 2024, I was awarded the Experiential Learning Scholarship, which enabled me to enroll in HDFS 469 and pursue the opportunity to become a Health Scholar.

What are your post-college dreams and plans?

My post-college dreams and plans are to graduate from nursing school and find a job that is the right fit for me. I also plan to travel abroad for the first time and go on adventures with my friends and family.
