What inspired or interested you about human development and family sciences?
I first chose OSU for its food science and technology program, but a study abroad trip on food, culture and biodiversity sparked my interest in serving people directly. While I initially planned to focus on farming and agricultural families, my path has shifted toward supporting my local community. My overall OSU experience has helped me recognize where my true passion lies: being of service to others.
What are you doing in your internship?
In my role as a resident services specialist at the Sabin Community Development Corporation, I support the resident services coordinator in daily operations across 17 properties, including connecting residents to resources, coordinating events, and helping manage community programs. I’ve been especially focused on projects that build stability and resilience, such as food pantry initiatives, financial wellness workshops and partnership outreach. Overall, my primary project is fostering connections between residents and community resources to strengthen housing stability and well-being.
What do you see as the greatest value of your internship?
The greatest value of my internship has been the opportunity to be directly involved in my immediate community and see the impact of resident services firsthand. I’ve learned how meaningful it is to build relationships, connect people with resources, and create spaces that foster stability and belonging. This experience has reinforced the importance of community-centered work.
What do you think of your experience at Oregon State so far?
My experience at OSU has been a time of exploration; every term has provided me with something new. I can't think of a singular experience, but collectively these experiences have brought me to where I am today, and I couldn’t be happier.
I would tell future students that the OSU College of Health provides strong academic preparation while also encouraging you to explore your passions through hands-on experiences. It’s a place where you can discover your purpose and feel supported in pursuing it.
Have you received a scholarship? If so, how has it affected your life and your studies?
Yes, I've received a few scholarships, including the John W. & E. Roxie Howlett Education Fund, the Rita Norris Memorial Scholarship and the Sonin Scholarship for Undergraduates. They have been incredibly helpful in allowing me to continue full-time at OSU.
