What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU?
I was inspired by the HDFS human services degree option because I want to help people. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always put others first. I chose OSU for my undergraduate studies because my family are big Beaver fans, and the campus is gorgeous.
What are you doing in your internship and/or what is your main project?
During my internship, I helped people experiencing houselessness meet basic needs such as food, water and electricity. I sit at the front check-in table, greet guests as they arrive and ask what resources they need that day. I also help guests get food, such as noodles, instant oatmeal, sandwiches and coffee. Another part of my role is supporting the leadership team with everyday tasks such as cleaning and organizing to ensure we can open our doors on time.
What do you see as the greatest value of your internship?
The greatest value of my internship has been getting to know our guests better. I find it very fulfilling to be someone who can listen and bring comfort and kindness to the houseless community in Corvallis. I’ve built lasting friendships with our guests and my colleagues.
What do you think of your experience at OSU so far?
I love going to school at OSU. I’ve made so many new friends, relationships and connections here that will last a lifetime. If you’re thinking about attending OSU’s College of Health, I say go for it. The professors, advisors and students are all amazing.
Have you received any scholarships?
I received the Cheryl JM Lutz Mental and Behavioral/HHS Scholarship, which provides $1,000 in tuition support each term. I also receive grants that provide $2,000 to $3,000 each term for tuition and other needs. These scholarships and grants have been a major help in my academic journey at OSU.
