What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?
I have always wanted to help others through healthcare and have a strong passion for food, which inspired me to pursue a field that combines both. I chose OSU because its master’s program in nutrition - professional dietetics closely aligns with my professional goals and I was drawn to the supportive and welcoming community.
What are you doing in your internship and/or what is your main project?
I supported schools in preparation for an administrative review by ensuring required documentation was in place and that school meals were USDA compliant. In addition, I recipe-tested menu items such as Kalua chicken sandwiches and Korean beef at a school site. I ensured they met National School Lunch Program requirements and sampled the recipes with elementary students.
What do you see as the greatest value of your internship? What have you learned the most?
The greatest value of my dietetics internship has been observing the importance of collaboration within school kitchens and between kitchen staff and the nutrition services director. Working together as a team is essential to consistently provide nutritious, high-quality meals to students.
What do you think of your experience at OSU?
My experience at OSU has been very positive, with supportive faculty and meaningful hands-on learning opportunities that have helped prepare me for my career. I would encourage anyone considering OSU to attend for its strong sense of community and commitment to student success through its courses and internships.
Have you received any scholarships?
I received the Helen Charley Scholarship, the John W. & E. Roxie Howlett Scholarship and the Elizabeth McBride Menashe Scholarship. These awards significantly reduced the financial burden on my family and me, especially after moving from Hawaii to Oregon in August 2025 and managing expenses such as tuition, rent and transportation. Because of this support, I can fully focus on my studies and internship rather than financial stress.
