About

The OPEC Training Academy offers free trainings for parenting education professionals on a variety of topics, including facilitation skill-building; anti-racism, equity, and inclusion; resilience and trauma-informed care; parenting education curricula; and other emergent topics. The OPEC Training Academy has many opportunities, including:

  • Training Academy workshops
  • Connect & Learn cohorts
  • Other regional and online trainings

To register for trainings, a person must have an account in the OPEC Professional Development system. Accounts are free and are a helpful tool to not only register for trainings, but access recordings and materials, see current job postings, apply for a Recognition Award, and more! For help with your account, email opec@oregonstate.edu.

Training Academy Workshops

Training Academy workshops are free webinars presented by trainers, educators, and other professionals who are experts in their respective fields. These workshops happen twice a month, with at least one training a month offering live interpretation in Spanish. By attending these workshops live, participants receive training hours and a certificate of completion. Training Academy workshops run fall to spring each year.

Even if you can't attend these workshops live, recordings and materials of each workshop are shared in the OPEC Professional Development system for 3 months after the event. At this time, OPEC is unable to grant training hours or certificates for those who only watch the recordings or attend only part of a live workshop.

Create a free account in the OPEC Professional Development System to register for OPEC Training Academy workshops and view past recordings.

Connect & Learn Cohorts

Connect & Learn cohorts are communities of learning designed and facilitated by OSU-OPEC facilitators. These small, multi-session opportunities provide a space for members of specific communities to share and learn from each other. Facilitators will guide participants through different discussion topics and activities that build on each other through the three sessions. All are encouraged to bring their lived experiences and questions.

Connect & Learns have three intended audiences:

  • Parenting Educators
  • OPEC/Early Learning Hub/parent educators who support Parent & Family Leadership
  • OPEC Hub Leaders

Training hours or certificates are not available for Connect & Learns. These meetings are not recorded.

To register for Connect & Learns, users will need an account in the OPEC Professional Development System. Need help with registration? Email the cohort facilitator directly or contact opec@oregonstate.edu

Regional and Online Trainings

Based on the needs of the OPEC network, OPEC occasionally hosts additional in-person and online trainings. Examples of trainings offered include Foundations of Facilitation and Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14 curriculum training. These trainings are typically for OPEC Hubs and Partners specifically.
