Get ready to register for courses
Academic Advising
We strongly recommend you submit a fall 2023 term course plan early in spring 2023 term to obtain your spring PIN. PINs will not be released before your advisor reviews your plan, so be proactive in submitting your Plan for PIN form.
At a minimum, all CPHHS students must meet with their assigned academic advisor in fall, winter, or spring term this academic year.
You can submit a Plan for PIN twice this year, but you are required to meet with your advisor at least once this academic year.
New students must attend an orientation to get their PIN. Orientation is for students who have never attended classes at OSU.
You must create a new plan titled fall 2023 in MyDegrees via MyOregonState.
Need help with this? View the MyDegrees Planner tutorial below.
Use the CPHHS major, minor, and option sheets, degree maps or Academic Catalog to see which classes you need to complete your degree and make sure you meet the prerequisites for the course before adding it to your plan.
For example, HDFS students must take HDFS 360 and 361 before taking HDFS 461 – so don’t plan to take HDFS 461 before you have completed HDFS 360 and 361.
If you don’t know yet which course you will take to complete a baccalaureate core requirement, enter the class as a “Choice.” (See minute 1:40 in the MyDegrees Planner tutorial).
Use the Schedule of Classes to make sure the classes are offered the term you place them in.
For example, PH 203 is only offered in spring or summer term, so don’t place it in your fall or winter term course plan.
PINs are not distributed until at least week six.
Although your PIN will not be available until at least week six, we strongly encourage you to submit a plan early in the term so your PIN can be loaded into MyDegrees as soon as it is available.
Priority Registration Phase 1 begins:
Your specific registration date and time will not be set until week six. Please check your registration date and time to determine when you can register. Note that this date may be several days or weeks after you submit your plan.
MyDegrees Planner is a powerful tool that helps you stay on track, can show you when prerequisites and courses are potentially offered and more. It can do almost everything except get you registered for courses.
If you have a technical issue (e.g., how to operate/navigate the planner), you can schedule a meeting with a peer advisor.
If you need help picking classes for your term course plan, you can schedule an advising appointment with your academic advisor.
