Safety, Health & Well-being (SHAW) Advisory Committee

Purpose

The primary purpose of the COH Safety, Health, and Well-being – or SHAW-- advisory committee is to promote a culture of safety and health protection within the college.

The work of the advisory committee is intended to minimize workplace injuries and illnesses, to promote well-being, and to ensure regulatory compliance by involving students, employees, and leadership in the process of creating and maintaining a safe and healthful work environment.

Following safe and healthy practices in every environment, in the field, in the lab, in an activity space, and in the office, leads to greater efficiency, improved productivity, higher quality research, and an enhanced sense of well-being.

Main objectives

  • Be a resource to support consultations with respect to health, safety, and well-being, and compliance with university policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with OSU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and other relevant OSU entities.
  • Promptly review all incidents, injuries, illnesses within the college/school, in coordination with EHS or other appropriate OSU entity.
  • Determine priorities (hazards or suggestions for improvement).
  • Develop appropriate communication and learning moments.
  • Involve employees and students in achieving a safe and healthful workplace.
  • Evaluate the committee and processes and recommend improvements.

This form is designed to notify the SHAW advisory committee about a health, safety, or well-being opportunity you identify. By providing specific information, you raise the awareness of the opportunity to the committee and college leadership.

Please note that anything reported to OSU EHS will be shared with our COH SHAW committee to support addressing concerns reported to the OSU system so no need to report twice.

Interest in serving on the committee can be directed to the chair. The dean may appoint additional members for representation. Most members will serve a 3-year term or will serve as part of their work responsibilities.
