Current Policy, 100% Smoke-Free

Oregon State University implemented a 100% smoke-free policy on the Corvallis campus in 2012. This policy was extended to the Bend campus in 2017. The policy was further amended in 2018 due to a Tobacco 21 law passed by the State of Oregon, under which, “persons under 21 years of age are not permitted to possess tobacco products or inhalant delivery systems while present on university-owned or -controlled property, or while attending university sponsored events.”

Planning underway for 100% Tobacco-Free Policy

The Oregon State University Tobacco Policy Task Force is currently engaging the University community in a process to consider a 100% tobacco-free policy for all Oregon State University-owned or -controlled properties. This proposed policy is compatible with OSU’s commitment to health, more supportive of those on campus who are trying to quit, and brings the University in line with major public health organizations’ recommendations to fully integrate smokeless tobacco products into all tobacco control policies. If supported, the new 100% tobacco-free policy would be implemented in the Spring of 2019.
