Current Policy, 100% Tobacco-Free

Oregon State University’s 100% tobacco-free policy is compatible with the University’s commitment to health, is more supportive of those who are trying to quit, and brings the University in line with recommendations from major public health organizations’ to fully integrate smokeless tobacco products into all tobacco control policies.

Smoking, vaping and tobacco use are not allowed on all University-owned and controlled property.  At the Corvallis campus, tobacco use is permissible* on sidewalks that border OSU’s boundaries.

*  State legislation. In Aug. 2017, the Oregon State Legislature raised the required minimum age for a person to legally buy or obtain tobacco products, inhalant delivery systems, and tobacco product devices, from 18 to 21.  The law applies to conduct occurring on or after Jan. 1, 2018.
