Tobacco-free Policy Evaluation

Campus Survey Fall 2018

To assess campus attitudes toward OSU tobacco policy options, as well as to assess the degree of compliance with OSU’s prior policy and the levels of tobacco use on campus, a campus-wide survey was conducted in Fall 2018.

  • The survey found strong support for a 100% tobacco-free policy and provided guidance for increasing policy awareness and compliance.
  • In addition, policy support has increased since spring 2013, when a similar survey was conducted.

Campus Survey Spring 2013

In spring 2013, a campus-wide survey was conducted to evaluate the smoke-free policy on the Corvallis campus and gauge the reaction of students, faculty and staff, including both nonsmokers and smokers.

Questions of primary interested included:

  • What is the level of awareness on campus about the policy, among students, faculty and staff?
  • What are the levels of support for the new OSU policy among students, faculty and staff?
  • What has been the level of compliance with the smoke-free campus policy?
  • What is the current prevalence of cigarette smoking among students, faculty, and staff on the Corvallis campus?
  • How have smokers on campus reacted to the smoke-free campus policy?
