Hobbies, interests, etc
Reading (not research!), my kids, dragon boat racing, exploring how to make a podcast, all things public health (specific interest in health, data, birth justice, and Micronesians and Pacific Islanders)
Why did you choose OSU for your Public Health graduate degree?
I chose OSU for a professor I wanted to work with. The professor is now my mentor, advisor, and dissertation chair.
What is your favorite course you have taken so far?
So many classes! I am a bit of a non-traditionalist and have taken classes in and outside of the PH major. My above all favorite class is a toss up between International Health and an Anthropology course.
Most memorable experience in the program so far and why?
Being able to bring my kids to some of my classes when schools were closed or I didn't have childcare available. I did not do this for all my classes, but for the ones I did have to, my professors were more than accommodating and understanding.
What advice would you give someone thinking about getting a graduate degree in Public Health?
It's worth it. Your experience is how you make it! In other words, while you have a 'set' round of classes to take. If you see a class of interest, take it!
If you were to recommend the MPH or Public Health PhD program to a close friend, what would you say?
Find a professor you want to work with. It may not be exactly your area of interest, but mentorship makes a difference!
Is there anything else that you would like to comment on or say about the OSU Public Health graduate programs?
Do your homework. Find a faculty mentor who will vouch for you.
