This year’s Moore Family Center Student Nutrition Fellow is Adam Choate, a senior in the nutrition and dietetics program at OSU. We recently interviewed Adam.

Could you highlight your work as a student nutrition fellow with the Moore Family Center?

I've had the unique opportunity to be part of laying the groundwork for reenvisioning the next chapter of the Center at the advent of our new directorship. The work has been more dynamic than I could have anticipated when I began my fellowship in the spring of 2024. In assisting with our nutrition outreach programs, Hope Grows Here and the Mobile Teaching Kitchen, I had the chance to exercise some of my education in human nutrition science in my community. Beyond our outreach programming, my time with the Moore Family Center has been an invaluable training in strategic organization planning and program development. In short, I've had a remarkable experience assisting in developing a burgeoning nutrition science engagement organization at OSU.

What do you like the most about your position at the Center?

What I like most about my position at the Center is the creative autonomy I enjoy guided by the combined respect and experience of Candace and David. We do a lot of brainstorming around here, and if I have an idea about how I think we can create a more meaningful program, then it is taken into real consideration. My perspective is truly valued, and I get to learn how something I envision can be adapted into something more impactful with the expertise and professionalism of my colleagues.

How do you envision your experience at the center will help you move forward in your career?

My experience at the Center has prepared me for the next steps in my career more than I could have imagined. I have been involved in such an enriching variety of projects and professional experiences that have helped me discover many of my strengths and exercise some of my weaknesses. I have gained fundamental professional insight that has inspired my career ambitions in nutrition and has helped me build professional momentum. More important than anything, my role at the Center has shown me what being valued in the workplace looks like and how to get things done.
