Best of the best: Family and Community Health faculty earn national recognition
The OSU Extension Family and Community Health team took home three national first-place awards and multiple top honors from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS).
Faculty from Oregon State University's Extension Service Family and Community Health program won three national first-place awards and multiple top honors from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
The team competed against 632 applications from 38 states. The awards recognize excellence in extension education programs that serve Oregon communities.
Record-breaking achievement for OSU Extension
"I am so proud of our almost unheard-of accomplishment of three first-place national team awards in the same year," said Glenda Hyde, associate professor of practice in Family and Community Health. Hyde serves Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson and Wheeler counties.
The awards highlight the team's innovation and creativity in meeting community needs during challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and disaster preparedness education.
First-place national awards
Disaster preparedness education
The team won first place nationally and in the Western region for Extension Disaster Education with "Preparing for the Cascadia Subduction Zone Event."

"Be Physically Active 2 Day!" earned first place nationally and in the Western region for School Wellness.

Pandemic education videos
An asynchronous lesson series for school-age youth during the pandemic won first place nationally and in the Western region for Communications Television/Video.

Additional top honors
The team also earned second place nationally and first place in the Western region for Marketing Package with their COVID-19 hand-washing campaign targeting parents and caregivers of young children.

- Amanda Hatfield: Distinguished Service Award for leadership and outstanding programs
- Glenda Hyde: Continued Excellence Award for professional development and leadership
