Jonathan Garcia named Core Ed Champion for innovative HIV/AIDS course
Jonathan Garcia, associate professor of public health, has been recognized as a Core Ed Champion. According to McKenzie Huber, Core Ed director, Jonathan's Core Ed course, H 256: Silence Equals Death — HIV Stigma to Global Social Movement, "is an innovative and powerful learning experience that inspires students to connect history to the social issues affecting their lives today. The course examines global responses to HIV/AIDS and highlights how community strength, activism and lived experience shaped solutions and social change.
"Dr. Garcia uses a creative, meaningful method in H256 known as 'body mapping', a storytelling practice where students visually reflect on personal experiences and the issues they care about. His hands-on, expressive approach makes learning engaging, personal, and transformative.”
Way to go, Jonathan!
