Nutrition doctoral student receives Gerber Foundation research award
Congratulations to Md Atikur Rahman, a PhD student in the Dallas Lab, who received a research grant from the Gerber Foundation. Atik is investigating how digestion of donor human milk in preterm infants may release antimicrobial peptides — molecules that help fight harmful gut bacteria.
His research aims to identify and test these peptides to determine whether they could be added to infant formula or milk fortifiers to strengthen the immune systems of vulnerable preterm infants. Great work, Atik!
