Public health doctoral student publishes research on cervical cancer screening in Nigeria

Congratulations to Bilkisu Abubakar, a doctoral student in public health - health promotion and health behavior, whose research was recently published in BMC Cancer.

The study is titled "Taking it to their doorstep: outreach well-woman clinics in brothels for cervical cancer screening of female sex workers in North-Western Nigeria."

As part of her work, Bilkisu led outreach clinics for female sex workers in Nigeria and implemented liquid-based cytology and HPV DNA testing — two innovative approaches to improve cervical cancer screening and early detection in vulnerable populations.

Her research contributes to expanding access to preventative care and reducing cervical cancer rates in underserved communities.
