Carolyn Aldwin receives Distinguished Lifetime Career Award in human development

The School of Human Development and Family Sciences is proud to announce that Professor Emerita Carolyn Aldwin has received the Distinguished Lifetime Career Award from the Society for the Study of Human Development.

Carolyn began her distinguished career with an interdisciplinary PhD in adult development and aging in 1982 from the University of California, San Francisco. She joined Oregon State University in 2004 as chair of the Human Development and Family Sciences Department, later served as director of the Gerontology Program until 2025, and was the Jo Anne Leonard Endowed Director of the Center for Healthy Aging Research for eight years.

She is the author or editor of eight books and has written over 150 journal articles and book chapters, largely in the areas of stress, coping, aging and health. Her research has been especially influential in understanding the effects of military service and combat exposure among veterans.
