Burnout lingers but the ranks of Oregon health care workers are growing
Oregon lawmakers' investment in behavioral health programs is showing results, with the provider workforce growing from 1.15 to 1.25 per 1,000 residents in 2024. Despite this progress, the state ranks 47th nationally for meeting mental health service demand, and burnout continues to impact healthcare workers, with only 75% of licensed nurses actively practicing according to the 2025 Health Care Workforce Needs Assessment report developed by College of Health researchers.
