The Child Development Center is located on the OSU campus in the Bates Family Study Center (Bates Hall) - corner of 26th & Orchard Streets. Our classrooms are bright and accessible and offer outdoor areas for active play.
Schedule of preschool classes. Preschool classes are offered for a total of 30 weeks per year (10 weeks per term). Preschool begins the first week of October and continues through early June. We follow the university academic schedule for holidays and between term breaks.
Morning and afternoon preschool sessions are offered four days per week: Tuesday - Friday. Parents may select either morning or afternoon session:
Six mixed-age class groups are available. 120 preschool spaces provide 50 positions reserved for general community enrollment and 70 positions reserved for children who are eligible to enroll through the Oregon Head Start Prekindergarten Program.
Six class groups of 20 children are offered: 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.
The Center employs highly trained teachers and offers a favorable 1:4 adult to child ratio. Each class is lead by an Instructor faculty Head Teacher and an Assistant Teacher who are consistent through-out the year. Head Teachers have earned either a Bachelors or Masters degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field. Assistant Teachers preferably have earned an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development.
In addition, 3 to 6 student teachers are placed in each classroom each term. Student teachers are typically at the senior level of study having completed a minimum of 13 credits of pre-requisite coursework in child growth and development.
