Tobacco-Free OSU

Oregon State University is 100% Tobacco-Free!

On October 2, 2019, Oregon State University became 100% tobacco-free, prohibiting smoking and all forms of tobacco use on all university-owned or controlled property.

This policy reflects OSU’s commitment to promoting healthy learning and work environments for all students, academic appointees, staff and visitors.

The 100% tobacco-free policy updates Oregon State University’s prior 100% smoke-free policy by adding non-combustible (smokeless) products such as chewing tobacco to the policy, and by extending the policy to cover all Oregon State University-owned or controlled property.

With this policy, OSU joins more than two thousand campuses (pdf) in the Pacific Northwest and around the United States that are completely tobacco-free.

In fall 2018, a survey was conducted on the Corvallis campus, engaging all students, faculty and staff to ask their opinions about this new policy and found very strong support. View the 2018 Executive Summary.
