Extension Support Specialist in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University, and the Manager of the Center for Behavioral Economics in Child Nutrition Programs (BEN).
Kathryn “Kate” Hoy – (Master of Food and Nutrition – BGSU 2010, RD/CDN) is the Manager of the Center for Behavioral Economics in Child Nutrition Programs at Cornell University. She is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the Smarter Lunchrooms Movement, an initiative providing resources and training to over 20,000 schools across the USA.
Her role with Cornell has taken her across the country to speak at conferences, to Capitol Hill where she regularly meets with government officials/policy makers, and to the table with many of the industry leaders in school wellness and childhood obesity.
She was recently awarded the AAEA – Distinguished Outreach Award and served as one of 10 experts sourced for the development of the Academy’s Grant Writing Tool-kit (publication forthcoming).
In her spare time, Kate manages a private practice called “Food for Fuel”, serves on the board for several DPGs within the Academy, writes columns and blogs in addition to participating in endurance athletics.
Kate hopes to continue her work in community nutrition research and teach in the future.
