Testing an Implementation Strategy for Antimicrobial Stewards to Reduce Excessive Antibiotic Use in Children’s Hospitals

Appropriate antibiotic use is critical to ensure their continued effectiveness, but their excessive use is common. Dr. McKay’s presentation will cover our use of facilitation, an implementation strategy, with antimicrobial stewards in children’s hospitals to reduce excessive antibiotic use with children post-surgery.


Speaker

Ginger McKay, PhD, MA, is an Assistant Professor at Brown School, Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. McKay is also the Assistant Director of Research for the Center for Public Health Systems Science (CPHSS) at Brown School. She earned a BS in Anthropology and Psychology from the College of Charleston, an MA in Medical Anthropology from the University of Memphis, and a PhD in Public Health from Oregon State University.

Dr. McKay’s research focuses on the dissemination and implementation (D&I) of evidence-based practices for infectious disease prevention. She also focuses on the sustainability of interventions that should be continued, as well as the de-implementation of interventions that are either ineffective or harmful. Her research has been successfully supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and private foundations.
