Reducing Food Insecurity and Improving Health Through a University-Food Bank Partnership
Co-Sponsored with the Global Health Program
October 13, 2023
In their presentation, Himmelgreen and Romero-Daza focus on the history of the Center for the Advancement of Food Security and Healthy Communities (CAFSHC) at the University of South Florida.
They illustrate the ways in which academics can partner with diverse stakeholders to address pressing issues affecting local communities.
Working together with a regional food bank, Feeding Tampa Bay (FTB), and with other community partners, CAFSHC has conducted research and program evaluations on innovative food assistance and nutrition education programs aimed at reducing food insecurity and improving health outcomes in vulnerable populations.
They also highlight the training opportunities available to students and discuss the intersection of anthropology and public health.
