Engaging Communities to Address Latino Health Disparities

India J. Ornelas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. She teaches in the MPH program and is the faculty lead for the Health Behavior and Social Determinants of Health area of emphasis in the PhD Program. She serves as the Research Director for the Latino Center for Health and the Faculty Champion of Diversity for the School of Public Health.

Her research focuses on understanding how social and cultural factors influence the health of Latino and American Indian communities. She also collaborates with communities to develop and test culturally relevant interventions in the areas of mental health, substance use and cancer prevention.
