Emma Ryan, a kinesiology student specializing in pre-therapy and allied health, discusses her research on ankle stability biomechanics and her aspirations to become a sports medicine physician.

What sparked your interest in health?

I have chosen to pursue a degree in kinesiology because I am passionate about understanding human movement and its impact on health, performance and rehabilitation. I am especially interested in providing rehabilitative exercises and physical education to patients with physical injuries in order to help them improve their mobility.

What research will you be working on and with whom?

I will be working with Dr. Cathleen Crowell on research related to the biomechanics of ankle stability, especially as it relates to various sports.

What are your future career and/or academic plans?

In the future, I plan to go to medical school and become a sports medicine physician. This profession will allow me to focus on providing that rehabilitative care I am passionate about.
