Hate music and music therapy: A public health perspective on two very different uses of music.

Ted Ficken, PhD, discuss the power of music and the ways that music can both heal and harm. He explores why hate music can be considered a public health issue, how hate music can be dangerous, and the public health implications that require attention, investigation and compassionate understanding.

Ficken also discuss research and stories that contributed to the writing of his recent book, Music of Hate, Music for Healing.

Ted Ficken is a writer, speaker, and college professor. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from Oregon State University, and bachelor's and master's degrees in music therapy from the University of Kansas. Additional credentials include being a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Music Therapist - Board Certified and licensed (MT-BC/L). He has taught online for George Washington University's (GWU) Masters of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program in Washington, DC.
