Biography

Dr. Tammy Bray is a Professor of Global Health and Nutrition and Dean Emeritus in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences. She was the Founding Dean who guided her college through CEPH-accreditation as Oregon's first accredited college of public health.

She came to Oregon State University in September 2002 from the Ohio State University, where she was a professor of nutrition and associate dean for research and international studies. A native of Taiwan, Tammy is a graduate of Fu Jen University in Taipei. She has a master's degree in nutrition and a Ph.D. in nutrition and biochemistry, both from Washington State University.

Since she returned to the professor position in 2017, Bray's research focuses on evaluating alternative protein sources as a feasible, environmentally sustainable protein supplement to combat childhood malnutrition globally. She continues to be interested in antioxidants and free radical metabolism to prevent diabetes and the role of diets in gene expressions that influence chronic diseases' susceptibility. She has published more than 110 papers in peer-reviewed journals, two books, and 100 abstracts and conference proceedings.

Tammy has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, recognizing her visionary leadership, pioneering research linking diet and health, and her teaching and mentoring excellence.
