My work is centered on creating a statewide professional development system for parenting educators. Our team is researching best practices in the field, developing core competencies for the profession and creating training modules to provide ongoing education and professional development for individuals on this career path. We are also working in collaboration with several stakeholders from across the state to identify cross-sector alignment among similar early care and education professions for efficiency in systems. Parenting educators offer an important service to families through the delivery of evidence-based parenting education programming and supporting parents in their most challenging job. These professionals in turn need network support and recognition for their important role in working with Oregon families. I have a strong commitment to the field of parenting education and advocating for safe and nurturing environments to ensure the healthy growth, development and future school success of young children. I believe in initiatives that create community norms that support positive parenting and value education in communities throughout Oregon.
Kim Deck coordinates and maintains a statewide professional development system for parenting educators. Kim was involved in the four year development of the system leading a committee of experts that developed standards for core knowledge and skills, created a recognition system, and developed a series of online training modules for individuals on this career path. She plans the annual parenting educator conference and works in collaboration with stakeholders from across the state to identify cross-sector alignment among similar early care and education professions.
