Biography

Jangho Yoon joined the College of Public Health and Human Sciences in 2011. He is a health economist by training. He earned a MSPH and PhD in Health Policy and Health Economics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and was a post-doctoral scholar at the NIMH Mental Health Economics at the University of California, Berkeley.

The overarching goal of his research program is, through cutting-edge empirical and theoretical analyses of health policies and systems, to produce scientific evidence that will promote the health and well-being of vulnerable populations.

His research program focuses on two interrelated areas: mental and behavioral health policy, and health system innovation.

His current research projects focus on impacts of accountable care models on behavioral and physician health outcomes and service use for low-income individuals, impacts of Medicaid expansion on mental and behavioral health services and outcomes, utilization of emergency departments and hospital services by psychiatric patients, and evaluation of a non-opiate pain management program, as well as intersections of mental health system, criminal justice system and welfare system.

As an applied econometrician, Dr. Yoon has a strong background in applied health econometrics and statistical methodology–including quasi-experimental analysis, causal inference, analysis of big health care claims data, and complex survey data. He has two decades of experience in linking and analyzing large secondary data from multiple databases such as Medicaid claims and eligibility, hospital discharge files, mental health and public health system data, all-payer-all-claims, emergency department utilization data, and vital statistics data, as well as various panel survey data.
