Research

Publications for the month of July

Check out the recent publications from researchers across the college over the past month. See if you can guess the researcher(s) based solely on publication titles:

This research is important because it provides clear evidence about the risks associated with breech births in out-of-hospital settings. This information can help pregnant individuals and healthcare providers make more informed decisions about birth plans when a baby is in a breech position.

This study shows that scientists might be able to create a version of lactoferrin in the lab that works very similarly to the natural protein in breast milk. This could potentially lead to better baby formula or other products that are more like human milk.

This integrative review analyzed 23 studies and identified risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases in long-haul truck drivers, including age, gender, lifestyle, and working conditions. Recommendations were made to promote physical, cognitive, and emotional health and to make macro-structural changes to improve access to health services and support behavioral and environmental changes.

This research explores the challenges faced by transgender and gender diverse cancer survivors in accessing sexual and reproductive healthcare. It identifies the need for improved support networks and gender-affirming healthcare providers to address these challenges.

A modified medical mistrust scale was validated among young Latinx adults in the US. The scale showed good internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity, and a two-factor solution. It was also associated with satisfaction with care, indicating good predictive validity. The scale can be used among bilingual populations in the US, but further validation studies are needed among different Latinx groups.

This paper offers a comprehensive and ethically-grounded framework for evaluating and reforming national health insurance systems. Its conclusions are particularly relevant for countries with universal healthcare systems facing challenges of sustainability, equity, and public trust. The emphasis on social solidarity and public engagement also speaks to broader global discussions about the role of healthcare in society and democratic governance of public institutions.

This study presents a novel framework for identifying biological signatures of food consumption that advances the fields of metabolomics, nutrition research, and biomarker discovery. The combination of stable isotope tracing and machine learning provides a powerful new tool for tracking food-derived compounds in the body, with potential applications in precision nutrition, toxicology, and pharmaceutical research.

This study investigates the effects of daily almond consumption on individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS).

This research helps explain how breastfeeding protects babies from infections. It suggests that some of the protective components of human milk are only activated when the milk is digested. This could lead to new ways to prevent or treat infections in newborns, especially premature babies who are at higher risk. It might also help in developing better infant formulas that more closely mimic the protective effects of human milk.
