Kinesiology - General, BS
St. John's College High School, Washington, D.C.
What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?
Before coming to Oregon State, I tried two other majors at two different schools, but I didn't feel passionate about either. As an athlete, I am passionate about human performance and the way the body moves and works so choosing the online kinesiology major in the College of Health was a no-brainer for me.
What are you doing in your internship and/or what is your main project?
As a strength and conditioning intern at St. John's College High School I coached over 20 varsity sports teams in the weight room. I helped with weight room setup, programming team workouts, and keeping athletes fueled, among many other duties.
What do you see as the greatest value of your internship? Or, what have you learned the most in your internship?
The greatest value of my internship was getting experience coaching on the floor. In my classes at OSU, I learn about the technical side of exercise science, but my internship gave me experience in the practical side and learning the art of coaching.
What are your post-college dreams/plans?
I aspire to be a strength and conditioning coach, training elite athletes at the college level.
What do you think of your experience at OSU / in the college so far? Any stand-out experiences?
I attend OSU's Ecampus, and it has been an amazing experience. I love being able to learn online while gaining practical experience in person.
Have you received a scholarship? If so, how has it affected your life and your studies?
I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the John W. & E. Roxie Howlett Education Fund. I am grateful because it allowed me to pursue my summer internship at SJC with less financial burden.
