Internship course
Public health, BS
Intern site name
The Springs Living at Lake Oswego

What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?

I was inspired to choose public health because I want to make a positive impact in the way people receive care, and work toward making care accessible and high quality. I chose Oregon State because from the moment I stepped on campus the community welcomed me and made me feel at home.

What did you work on during your internship?

I worked on audits for The Springs Living facility as they prepared for surveys and assisted with coordinating care plans of the residents.

My project was a Fall Prevention Tracking Program. I created a spreadsheet to help the staff better analyze the factors and details of each resident’s falls in a way that allowed for cross analysis to detect patterns that were not visible in their usual program.

What do you see as the greatest value of your internship? Or, what have you learned the most in your internship?

The greatest value was learning from the health services team. They pushed themselves to offer care and support to each of their residents. They were also leaders and managers that built an environment of constant growth and support for all employees.

What are your post-college dreams?

I hope to return to senior living and become an administrator in the health services field.

What do you think of your experience at OSU?

The public health program and college were so incredible in helping me find my path to achieve my goal of impacting others in a positive way, and identifying what that means to me.
