What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?

As I began studying the health care system in the United States, I noticed something was absent: support for older adults. It bothered me that we seem to focus little time or effort on the needs of our aging population or our plan for the future. I felt motivated to learn more about health care services for older adults and why they're so important. My dad is an OSU alum, he brought me to campus multiple times growing up, which led to my interest in attending this school.

What are you doing in your internship and/or what is your main project?

At my internship, I've been connecting with older adults who are a part of our community. I've conducted a quality-metrics survey for participants about the fish tank here at the Grace Center. I assisted with the 2024 Aging Summit, a community educational event. I'm also working on an intern-run educational event. With any spare time available, I offer assistance to any staff members who might need it.

What do you see as the greatest value of your internship?

Or, what have you learned the most in your internship? I've found it very rewarding to have the ability to get to know the participants of Grace Center. It has also been informative to learn how day-to-day operations function to keep the Grace Center running. It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to ensure non-profits like the Grace Center can follow their mission, and it has been helpful to learn some ways administration at Grace Center keep the place funded and running efficiently.

What do you think of your experience at OSU/in the college so far? Any stand-out experiences?

I've really enjoyed my time participating in the Healthy Aging Club. I'm a transfer student and never lived on campus, so it took me a minute to find my footing. Once I did, I excelled at everything I applied myself to. It feels like this is where I was meant to be.

What are your post-college dreams/plans?

I will attend Oregon State again this fall to complete the MPH in health systems and policy program. After my education, I hope to work in a day service or assisted living facility for older adults. Eventually, I hope to use my experience and skills to write policies for older adult health care and improve the overall experience of health care for older adults.
