Anna Lane
What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?
I was interested in studying human development and family sciences because I want to serve the community. I am passionate about helping others and reducing stress in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals to achieve their goals, and I strive to promote the health and safety of all families.
What are you doing in your internship and/or what is your main project?
At FTRN, I shadow and assist our family support specialists during home visits to families in the community. FTRN's main goal is to provide resources and emotional support to low-income families to achieve self-sufficiency.
What do you see as the greatest value of your internship? Or, what have you learned the most in your internship?
The most significant value of interning at FTRN is directly working with families in the community. Frequent home visits allow for meaningful relationships between staff and clients, strengthening the community and bonds between families, outreach and resources.
I encourage anyone interested in people, advocacy, health, families, children and relationships to join the College of Health. The HDFS program's curriculum is thoughtful, inspiring, culturally competent and relevant to any career working with people.
What are your post-college dreams/plans?
My dream career is to be a child welfare social worker. I am intrigued by the investigation side of Child Protective Services and want to be an advocate for children.
