Center for Healthy Aging Research

The global population is aging. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people who are age 60 and older will double in just 30 years, from 1 billion in 2020 to 2.1 billion in 2050.

Novel multidisciplinary approaches are needed to meet the challenges and opportunities of this trend and aging in general.

The Center for Healthy Aging Research (CHAR) is focused on the collaborative research that’s needed to examine the complex factors that shape the aging process, from the cellular to the societal levels.

This includes sharing research resources with the broader community of scholars working to help people live healthier, longer lives.

Char Members

CHAR members are exploring the wide range of influences on aging. This includes the biological and genetic components of aging to develop targeted strategies for good health and for diseases such as Alzheimer’s; musculoskeletal interventions to prevent disability and optimize physical health in seniors; supportive technologies that meet the needs of aging adults and their families; and the interface between physical, psychological, and social factors to help improve well-being across the lifespan.

CHAR Interest Groups

CHAR members gather in smaller Interest Groups to focus on shared interdisciplinary interests. Interest Groups are flexible, active structures that can foster new research collaborations and be created and retired as needed.
