The Oregon Parenting Educator Professional Development Steering Committee began meeting in 2013 tasked with creating a system of professional development for parenting educators in Oregon. This system will include a common set of core areas for parenting educators in a variety of early childhood sectors, a recognition system for parenting educators, and a one-stop virtual center for professional development opportunities.

This highly collaborative effort is led by Oregon State University with input from national, state and local voices. Feedback has been received through:

  • A 2011 National Symposium where information was gathered from other states that have existing professional development and/or recognition systems;
  • A survey of Oregon parenting educators in 2014;
  • A survey of Oregon agencies regarding professional development needs; and
  • Ongoing input from the cross-sector steering committee.
