David Rothwell receives Russell Sage Foundation grant to study paid family leave and economic security

David Rothwell, Knudson Chair in Family Policy and associate professor of human development and family sciences, has been awarded a Core Research Grant from the Russell Sage Foundation, with a focus on social, political and economic inequality. The grant is highly competitive, particularly amid ongoing federal changes to health and human services research funding.

Rothwell's project, "From Precarity to Protection? The Role of Paid Family Leave in Shaping Mothers' Employment and Public Assistance Use," will build on long-standing partnerships with the Oregon Health Authority, Oregon Department of Human Services and Oregon Employment Department.

The research aims to deepen understanding of how paid family leave policies shape economic outcomes for mothers and families navigating financial instability.
