College of Health research team awarded grant to advance equity in aging and physical activity

A research team led by Research Assistant Professor Dawn Hyosin Kim has received a competitive pilot grant from the Rutgers-NYU Center for Asian Health Promotion and Excellence. The center is supported by the NIH’s National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) under Grant 1P50MD017356-01.

This recognition highlights Oregon State University’s leadership in advancing health equity for diverse communities. The research team includes Veronica Irvin, associate professor and Celia Strickland Austin and G. Kenneth Austin III Endowed Professor in Public Health, and Lan Doan, MPH, PhD, assistant professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and a distinguished graduate of OSU’s doctoral program in public health - health promotion and health behavior.

The grant will support research into how healthcare providers engage older adults with memory problems in conversations about physical activity, with a focus on differences across Asian ethnic groups in access and experiences.
