Abstract

This report provides a snapshot of the early learning and care workforce in the early 2020, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to COVID-19 global pandemic, child care providers were ordered to close on March 25, 2020 unless they were providing Emergency Child Care (ECC). The transition to ECC changed how data on workforce members was collected from child care providers and resulted in an inability to confidently know who was working at a facility in the later parts of 2020. Therefore, the 2020 workforce represents a subsample of those who worked in early care and education facilities in early 2020 (January-March). Because the 2020 data only includes three months of workforce information, this brief only includes a snapshot of the early 2020 (pre-COVID) workforce, without comparison to the 2012 Workforce Report baseline.
