Maritza Leon Gutierrez

Academic interests

Maritza's research interests focus on cancer prevention and screening among Latinas. She is analyzing data on risk perception among interval breast cancer survivors. She is currently working on two NIEHS funded studies including the Be Well Study, which implements a navigator program among Oregon private well homeowners.

Biography

Maritza earned her bachelor’s in Psychology, Spanish, and Sociology from the University of Portland and earned her Master’s of Public Health from Oregon State University. She is a current doctoral student in Public Health, Health Promotion and Health Behavior concentration.

She has five years of experience in community health education in various health topics ranging from substance abuse prevention among youth and managing chronic conditions. She is also a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholars Program.
