Jessica Gorman

Academic interests

Dr. Gorman leads a robust community-engaged research program that integrates qualitative and quantitative methodologies to investigate multi-level factors contributing to healthcare experiences and quality of life outcomes, with a substantial focus on life after cancer.

Her current research focuses on adapting, implementing, and evaluating scalable interventions to reduce the negative effects of cancer and cancer treatment on psychosocial, reproductive, and sexual health, especially for young adults and LGBTQ+ people.

She welcomes new students interested in mixed methods research, cancer care, health communication, and reproductive and sexual health equity.

Biography

Dr. Gorman joined the College of Health in 2015. She previously served as a project scientist at University of California San Diego’s Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, a postdoctoral fellow at University of California San Diego's Moores Cancer Center and Department of Pediatrics, and as a lecturer at San Diego State’s Graduate School of Public Health. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of California San Diego, an MPH in Health Behavior and Health Education from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in Public Health (Health Behavior) from University of California San Diego in its joint doctoral program with San Diego State University.
