What inspired or interested you about your field of study? And why did you choose OSU/the college?

Like many others in the field, I am passionate about helping people and making a positive difference in their lives. Specifically, I am dedicated to creating positive changes in the work environment with a focus on occupational safety. I chose OSU because I was born and raised in Corvallis and have always wanted to be a Beaver.

Tell us about your time at Oregon State and in the college. Is there someone or something who/that helped you be successful?

If you are reading this and are someone (student, faculty, staff, alum, mentor, friend or family) with whom I interacted during my time at OSU, thank you for being part of my academic experience and supporting me. Whether we met just once or spent many terms or years together, I appreciate you and want you to know that you helped me be successful!

Special thanks to the organizations I was part of during my time at OSU. These organizations helped me grow into the well-rounded person I am today and provided me with valuable skills, experiences, and friendships:

  • OSU Muslim Student Association (MSA)
  • OSU American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP)
  • Student Public Health Association (SPHA)
  • Occupational Ergonomics and Biomechanics Lab (OEB)
  • Substance Use and Neurocognition Lab (SUN)
  • Basic Needs Center (BNC)
  • OSU Surge Bench Program (Center for Health Innovation), and Inpria.

What are your post-college dreams/plans?

I hope to focus on occupational safety by either pursuing an MPH in Environmental and Occupational Safety or by gaining work experience as an occupational safety professional.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Take advantage of all the activities OSU offers outside of classes. You won't be a well-rounded student if you only attend classes. Step out of your comfort zone—join student clubs, attend sports and cultural events, and participate in research labs. I know it can be daunting and hard to manage everything, but trust me, it's worth it in the end.

Also, please enjoy your time as a student at OSU. You might feel like you want to graduate quickly because of the stress, but guess what? It goes by faster than you think. Even if you don't feel it now, you'll realize it at the end. So, be kind to yourself, take care of yourself and those around you, and embrace every experience as an opportunity. Take it easy. Peace all!
