Internship title/site and brief summary:

Tobacco Assessment Lead for the Strategies for Policy And enviRonmental Change (SPArC) project at Linn County Public Health. For my internship I worked with my team and several community partners to conduct a health and economic impact assessment to understand impacts of the tobacco retail industry on Linn County. This included conducting interviews and focus groups to measure public, professional, and retailers’ knowledge and opinions regarding tobacco, and working together to identify community-driven solutions.

Professional / academic / life plans after graduation:

In March 2020 I accepted a position as senior research assistant with the Care Management Plus team at OHSU in Portland. After my first week in the office we started working remotely, which has been interesting, but it’s going great! Since moving back to Portland, my partner and I got an apartment together and recently adopted a rescue dachshund named Kobe!

Favorite memory of being a graduate student at Oregon State:

Definitely spending time with my global health cohort. I miss them so much!

Impactful faculty mentorship:

Dr. Garcia exceeded all of my expectations as an advisor. I met him at the 2017 OPHA conference at OSU where he was the judge of the poster sessions- little did I know less than year later he would be my mentor! He always knew the answer to my questions, pushed me to do my best, and advocated for me in so many ways. I’m really grateful to have learned from him.
