EXSS 343 Pre-Therapy/Allied Health Seminar

Course Description
Provides knowledge in professional school preparation and current issues related to the allied health professions.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide the student with learning and discussion opportunities for students in the PTAH option. Topic areas include managed care, medical documentation, values and behaviors, ethics, cultural competence as related to health care, personal statement preparation, application preparation, and interview preparation.
The Pre-Therapy/Allied Health Seminar is a one (1) credit course.
Prerequisites
- EXSS 132
- Z 331, Z 332, Z 333, Z 341, Z 342 and Z 343 (all with a “C” or better)
- Overall GPA of 2.75
- and instructor and departmental approval required
Students who wish to take EXSS 343: Pre-Therapy/Allied Health Seminar will be required to submit an application to the course instructor during Week 5 – 7 of the term prior to the term of application.
Once the application is received, it will be reviewed for prerequisites including coursework and gpa. If the student has met the prerequisites and there is space available, the student will be notified by the department office that they are cleared to register for EXSS 343.
Application
In order for the student to register for EXSS 343: Pre-TherapyAllied Health Seminar, the student must submit a completed application to the course instructor. Applications are due during week 5-7 of the term prior to requested term. Please see the application deadlines for the Allied Health Seminar.
Students who wish to apply to take the Pre-Therapy/Allied Health Seminar are required to have satisfied all prerequisite coursework. Additionally, students must complete the EXSS 343 Application (pdf). Students will be required to have completed all aspects of the application for consideration. Once complete, students will be admitted on a space available basis.
GPA Calculation
As part of the application process, the student is expected to calculate their Option specific GPA and have their academic adviser “sign off” on its calculation. The student should make a copy of the following document GPA Calculation Worksheet (pdf) and bring it to their academic adviser as part of their advising appointment for review and signature. The GPA calculation form and copies of academic transcripts are required for application.
