Research/Career Interests:

I am an environmental epidemiologist focused on understanding the health impacts related to place. A large portion of my research uses spatial exposure assessment methods to determine the chronic health effects associated with exposure to air pollution, including cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and cancer. Given the spatially correlated nature of numerous social and environmental exposures, I integrate this research within a multidisciplinary framework to examine the interactions between social and environmental health determinants. For example, neighborhood socioeconomic conditions (e.g. deprivation and community belonging), built environment characteristics (e.g. neighborhood walkability and active transportation), and other environmental exposures (e.g. noise). Currently, I am working on a global cohort study to determine the cardiopulmonary health impacts from outdoor and household air pollution as well as examining co-benefits between air pollution and climate change reductions.
