Nutrition Now Radio ShowNutrition students host weekly call-in radio show

How do I get enough fruits and veggies in my diet when I’m on a limited budget?  What are the healthiest “to go” foods around Corvallis?  For answers to these and your own burning questions about nutrition, tune in to Nutrition Now at KBVR 88.7 FM on Monday nights at 7:00 pm.  It’s OSU’s radio station that features Erin Dooher and Mike Etzel, seniors in nutrition who are in their fourth month of airing Nutrition Now, a radio health advocacy show designed to educate listeners and create awareness in the areas of nutrition and general health, as well as providing listeners with an entertaining experience.

Nutrition Now Radio Show“We offer listeners two different radio ‘personas’,” says Mike.  “While Erin is cool, calm, and collected, always drawing on the latest scientific information to back up her claims, I rely on instinct, intuition and common hearsay to delegate what is healthy and what isn’t healthy.  While we don’t aim to tell people what to eat, we do create a sense of urgency and interest surrounding nutrition with the objective that folks will then go and make wise decisions about what they eat.”
“Mike and I do research before every show, so we’re learning new things and brushing up on old things,” explains Erin. A recent show featured a discussion about artificial sweeteners and others have addressed food insecurity and weight loss and maintenance. “The experience has been great.  We’ve had some of the most famous OSU professors on the show – Kathy Greaves, Steve Cook, and Kevin Ahern.  We had associate professor in nutrition Mary Cluskey on the show to talk about high-fructose corn syrup. It’s GREAT to learn about a different topic every week!”
