According to Associate Emeritus Bill Winkler… From all that has been and will be, written and said about health and longevity, it boils down to the following “Big 5″ determinants:
Our Genes: Good, bad, or so-so, we can enhance or modify our genes by how we handle the remaining four.
Our Diet: Dine on the colors, the reds, yellows, greens, browns, whites, blues, oranges, blacks via: fruits, veggies, fish, fowl, limited lean red meats. Avoid overindulging on sugars, fats, and sodium. Best advice for weight control: “If it tastes good, spit it out!”
Our Exercise: MOVE! Challenge your muscles and heart consistently. This may be through our work, home chores, fitness classes or clubs, play, sports, whatever. Finding a dedicated partner or group is really helpful.
Our Sleep: Critical! Strive for a consistent schedule of 7-8 hours preferably close to the same time period each day. This will boost your immune system, restore energy and your mental function. Works to control our weight too!
Our Attitude: A positive, happy approach to the potential rewards each day has in store sure beats being a grump. Smile, laugh, enjoy!
