Responsibilities

The Knudson Chair is expected to continue a well-established, innovative, and independent research program through application for and receipt of external funds and publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals; effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor graduate students; and provide exceptional service to the College, OSU, and the profession. As part of the research assignment, the occupant will provide leadership for multidisciplinary efforts in the Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families and will contribute to the development of a Master of Public Health in family and child/adolescent health. The Knudson Chair will help to lead and mentor faculty and build multidisciplinary teams to address critical issues surrounding family policy and the health outcomes of children, adolescents, and/or youth. The Chair also will liaise with other existing centers in the college and across campus as appropriate, such as the Center for Healthy Aging Research and the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition & Preventive Health. The Chair will conduct high quality research, translate research into practice, and build the capacities of communities to enhance the health of individuals and families.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an established and sustained history of well defined and active engagement in funded scholarship in family-related policy linked to child and adolescent health and well-being; demonstrated evidence of collaborative leadership, strong commitments to the application and translation of research; evidence of successful undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; a record of successful professional service; evidence of significant leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, an appreciation for broad intellectual inquiry and methods, and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. The candidate will have the academic background and expertise to meet expectations of Full Professor with indefinite tenure in the School of Social and Behavioral Health Sciences. An earned doctorate in human development and/or family sciences or in a public health discipline with a focus on family, child, or adolescent health, or a related field is required.

School and College

The School of Social & Behavioral Health Sciences is one of two schools in the College of Public Health & Human Sciences, the other being the School of Biological & Population Health Sciences. The School comprises graduate and undergraduate programs in Health Management and Policy, Health Promotion and Health Behavior, and Human Development and Family Sciences.

The Council on Education in Public Health has given approval to the College to pursue becoming an accredited College of Public Health & Human Sciences. The College is located within OSU’s Health Sciences Division along with the OSU Colleges of Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine. Collaborative research across disciplines is fostered within the College and with faculty of other colleges and institutions. As a Carnegie Engaged institution, the College’s innovative Outreach Collaborative for Healthy Oregon (OCHO) encompasses the College’s Extension Family and Community Health and 4-H Youth Development among other outreach programs, and forges successful partnerships between county extension offices and county health departments for public health and human sciences practice improvement. In addition, OSU Extension Family and Community Health Program serves thousands of Oregonians across the state.
