Biostatistics Track Learning Competencies:
- describe the roles Biostatistics plays in recognizing and addressing public health problems;
- understand and appropriately apply different Biostatistical tools and concepts, such as comparison of two groups, linear and advanced regression, and categorical data methods;
- apply principles of good ethical/legal practice and cultural competency as they relate to study design, data management and data analysis, including considerations of confidentiality, data security, appropriate pre-testing of data collection instruments, among many;
- apply common Biostatistical methods for inference in data analyses, including examining the precision and accuracy of estimates and evaluating alternative methods for estimates of parameters;
- apply Biostatistical skills in the formulation or application of public health programs or policies, including understanding possible biases, limits of existing data, limits of various estimators and procedures, and the effects of missing and incomplete data on inferences;
- develop written and oral presentations based on Biostatistical analyses to assist in communicating findings and developing recommended evidence-based interventions and control measures in public health research and evaluation.
Environment, Safety and Health Track Learning Competencies:
- Identify and assess the major environment, safety, and health hazards that impact workers and the general population.
- Communicate culturally appropriate strategies for preventing and controlling environment, safety and health hazards.
- Conduct environment, safety and health applied research.
- Analyze the interrelationship among the organization, delivery, and financing of environment, safety and health-related services.
- Apply environment, safety and health knowledge and skills in practical settings.
- Adhere to established ESH professional ethical standards and practices.
Epidemiology Track Learning Competencies:
- Recognize public health problems pertinent to the population and identify key related sources of data.
- Understand, calculate and apply the basic terms, measures, and methods used in epidemiology.
- Apply principles of good ethical/legal practice and cultural competency as they relate to study design and data collection.
- Draw appropriate inferences from epidemiological data including identifying strengths and limitations of reports.
- Assist in communicating findings and developing recommended evidence-based interventions and control measures in response to epidemiologic findings.
Health Management and Policy Track Learning Competencies:
- Conceptualize, analyze and resolve problems related to health services delivery and finance.
- Identify and apply economic, financial, legal, organizational, political, and ethical theories and frameworks.
- Employ appropriate qualitative and quantitative techniques to manage human, fiscal, technological, information, physical, and other resources.
- Establish and manage systems and processes to assess organizational performance for continuous improvement of quality, safety, and effectiveness.
- Act ethically and professionally, and be responsive to community variations in cultures and sociodemographics.
- Lead in all levels of public and private health services organizations.
- Communicate, solve problems and make decisions related to health policy and management in the public and private sectors.
- Integrate theory and practice to plan, implement, and evaluate strategies and policies in health services programs, systems, and organizations.
Health Promotion and Health Behavior Track Learning Competencies:
- Apply theory in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion interventions, programs, and policies.
- Develop interventions and programs to effect change at multiple levels, including individual, community, organizations, and policy.
- Design and implement strategies to promote health.
- Solicit and integrate input from community and organization stakeholders.
- Design and deliver health communication messages.
- Evaluate and interpret results from program evaluations and other research.
- Define research problems, frame research questions, design research procedures, and outline methods of analysis.
- Apply ethical principles that govern the practice of public health.
- Enact cultural competency in diverse social and cultural communities.
- Develop a substantive area of emphasis.
International Health Track Learning Competencies:
- Design and manage health development programs considering health, social, political, cultural, and environmental factors.
- Work in, and adapt to, any global context for health development.
- Integrate global, political, economic, and cultural systems knowledge into health development.
- Manage health development programs in global settings.
- Develop a disciplinary subspecialty to be applied to international public health.
- Create socio-economically and culturally sensitive strategies and programs in health development.
- Design and manage health development programs in accordance with international and local ethical standards.
